THE FUTURE OF HEALTH ONLINE

By Jennifer Lannon

As the Director of Brand Development for dotHealth (the organization behind the .health domain extension), I have the pleasure of connecting with health innovators around the world and learning about their approaches to solving the most urgent issues in health.

.health domains became available to the health industry on July 20, so for the past month I have been learning about the companies building on .health domains and advancing health. Below you’ll see the stories of three tech-enabled innovations driving healthcare transformation – a mobile app building with Apple’s Care Kit, an AI-powered women’s health platform, and a site dedicated to the powerful stories and clinical efficacy of VR in health.

One of the first sites to launch on a .health domain was Caremap.health. As one of the first apps on Apple’s new CareKit platform, Caremap.health was launched earlier this year by Boston Children’s Hospital and Duke Health to enable family caregivers to securely store vital medical information and share it with health professionals as part of their care or in an emergency.

If you have heard my podcast episode on Digital Health Today, you know my interest and excitement for the future of AI and its application for self-care. A great example of AI and its impact on people being able to take more control of their health is Flo.health – an AI-powered woman’s health platform that enables women to track their period and fertility. The beautifully-designed app is used by over 10 million every month, in 20+ languages 200+ countries!

Lastly, I am wildly impressed by appliedVR’s success simplifying access to VR therapy for patients and providing their headset to over a hundred hospitals across the US. appliedVR recently launched Immersive.health which is a site that educates readers about how VR technology is positively impacting patients and healthcare providers across the world.

We couldn’t wrap up without mentioning that Matthew Holt himself also launched one of the first .health sites at SMACK.Health. Matthew has been sharing the word about the next generation of health tech innovation and how it emcompasses the themes of SMACK.Health (social & sensors, mobile, analytics, cloud, and kindness). We’re sure we’ll hear more about this one at the Fall conference!

It’s been an exciting first month of .health and we can’t wait to share even more stories of innovators building on .health domains when you see us at the Health 2.0 Fall Conference this October.

Meet Jennifer and the dotHealth team at Health 2.0’s Annual Conference! On Monday afternoon on the mainstage, be there for the release of the 2017 Consumer Health Online Report! Throughout the conference, be sure to stop by the dotHealth booth to learn more about how to register your .health domain.
